Abstract

This review chapter provides a comprehensive synthesis of the academic literature on Initial Public Offerings (IPOs). We cover the major topics in IPO research, including underpricing, long-run performance, the role of underwriters, and the decision to go public. We also identify directions for future research in this important area of corporate finance.
